Nov. 7, 2018, Sterling, Colo. – The Plainswomen soccer team signed their first group of girls for the 2019 season. Jenna Vidal, Yadira Ramos, Deljanae Coleman and Nevaeh Archuleta all signed their letters of intent and are excited to be a part of the Plainswomen soccer team.
Jenna Vidal attends Vista Peak Preparatory High School and plays the forward and center mid position on the pitch. Jenna has been a four-year starting varsity letterman with Vista Peak Preparatory High School, reaching the Colorado State Soccer Tournament in her freshmen year. Additionally, she earned her spot on the All-Conference Team as a freshman and sophomore, leading her team in assists. Jenna was limited in her junior year by an injury and continued to support her team from the sidelines, cheering them on. Her competitive club teams have had numerous tournament wins, in and out of state, and played in highly competitive leagues.
Head coach Ken McAlpine commented on Vidal, "Jenna is an all-around attacking talent, and I believe she can come in and help us in several different positions. Her vision and attacking intentness are what make her a dangerous player. We are very excited to welcome her into the family."
Yadira Ramos attends Skyview High School and plays the forward, wing, and center mid positions.
Some of her accolades include being the 2017 Team MVP, first team all-conference all three years, and was named Academic All State Honorable Mention in 2017. She also holds the school record for most goals in a season with 32 of her total goals scored to date being 55 goals in just three years.
Alongside her high school team, Ramos has been the number-one goal scorer in multiple international tournaments, and represented Mexican-Americans in the prestigious Olimpiada Nacional Tournament in Mexico in 2014 and 2015, claiming gold and bronze medals.
"Yadira's goal-scoring record speaks for itself – she has a natural ability to finish plays," McAlpine added. "She has composure in and around the box, a few types of shots that she has nicely developed, and a strong leg. Her consistency is what sets her apart, and we are hopeful that her goal-scoring form will continue here at NJC. We are very happy to be welcoming Yadira to our program."
Deljanae (DJ) Coleman attends Prairie View High School and plays the center mid and forward positions.
As a junior, she helped lead her team to conference title and birth in 5A State Playoffs. Additionally she was the second-leading scorer on her team with 13 goals. Off the field, she was name Second Team All-Conference Honors and Academic All-State Honorable Mention
McAlpine commented, "What first caught my eye about DJ was her competitive fire. She is a very physical player, and although she has proven herself to be a good forward, I feel like she can also control the midfield very well. We are excited to welcome another bright personality and great athlete to NJC."
Nevaeh Archuleta is a local athlete from Sterling High School and plays the wing position.
She is a varsity letter winner in all of her years playing for the Tigers and was named to the All-Conference team in 2017 and 2018. Additionally she was named Co-MVP of her team in 2018.
Head coach Ken McAlpine added on her signing, "Nevaeh has the technical ability to keep up with the higher speed of play in Region IX, and we are excited to see how she develops within our competitive environment. Her ability to play balls in from the left flank is something you don't find in every player. She has been an active part of the local soccer community since her youth, and we are happy to be welcoming her into our NJC family."
