Feb. 5, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — The Northeastern Plainswomen are excited to announce that Oliva Himmel has signed to her letter of intent to play volleyball in the 2019 season. During her time as a prep at Highland High School, she earned many accolades. Some of those include first team all-conference in 2017 and 2018, second team all-state in 2018, AVCA Player of the Week in 2017 and in 2018, and Mile High League player of the year in 2018.
Outside of athletics, Himmel was active in other extra-curricular activities in her school. Sje was a member of the National Honor Society and was Student Body President. When asked about why she chose Northeastern, Himmel commented, "I chose NJC to be my new home because the people immediately made me feel like part of the family."
Head coach Jess Squier was thrilled for her signing as well. "We are excited about the commitment of Olivia," added Squier." She has been coming to our camps for years and watching her develop into a well-rounded student-athlete has been enjoyable. I really like the fact that she has played multiple positions in volleyball. It really helps a setter when learning strategies about the game. She's a very personable individual who we expect good things from on the court and in the classroom."
The Plainswomen volleyball team is still adding new players for the 2019 season looking to make it back to the national tournament.
