Northeastern Wins in Five Over Laramie County
Plainswomen advance in tournament
Nov. 6, 2019, Sterling, Colo. — In their opening game of the tournament, the Northeastern Junior College (NJC) Plainswomen played against an already warm Laramie County Community College (LCCC) Golden Eagle team. The Golden Eagles played earlier in the morning in a play-in game against Lamar and won in three sets. In the regular season, NJC and LCCC battled every time they played with both matches going into five sets. With LCCC coming off a win, the fans could expect this game would go the distance.
In the first set, Northeastern took an early lead, but LCCC battled back and rallied late to take the 27-25 win. In the second, NJC never found their groove, which LCCC took advantage of and won 25-18. The rest of the match was do-or-die for the Plainswomen, so they had to find a way. The third set was where NJC found their stride and started putting balls away and won 25-18. The fourth set was another great showing by the Plainswomen as they hammered balls away for the 25-19 win. Just like their other two meetings, this game too went into the fifth set. Northeastern hoped this finished the same way the other two did, with them on top. With the Plainswomen in their groove, LCCC had a hard time blocking them and finding gaps in the defense. Northeastern strung points together at the end and won 15-8.
Northeastern advances in the tournament to play tomorrow at 4:00 pm against either Western Wyoming or McCook. Laramie drops down to the contender’s bracket and plays tomorrow at 12:00 pm.
