Northeastern Baseball Takes Down Southeast Community College In a Exciting 10th Inning Walk-Off 9-8
It came down to the wire on Friday, as Northeastern grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 9-8, over Southeast. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the tenth when Riley Suarez singled, scoring one run.
Bats blistered as Northeastern collected 14 hits and Southeast tallied nine in the high-scoring game.
A single by Jack Hogan put the Bobcats on the board in the top of the first.
The Bobcats committed an error, which helped Northeastern tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Plainsmen broke up the tie when Tavish Dey singled, scoring one run. Then an error followed to extend the lead to 4-1.
Southeast flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring seven runs on four hits to take the lead, 8-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to left field by Hogan that drove in four.
Northeastern tied the game in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a solo home run to left field by George Greene, a single by Dey, and a single by Jett Maisano.
DDC Player of the Game, Justin Dean earned the win for Northeastern. The right-handed pitcher allowed two hits and two runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out five and walking two. Will Flege took the loss for Southeast. The reliever went one inning, giving up five runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking two. Callum Baron started on the hill for Northeastern. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and one run over three and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking three. Jordan Lemon stepped on the bump first for the Bobcats. The righty allowed five hits and four runs (one earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three. Keon Bandy appeared in relief for Northeastern.
Northeastern accumulated 14 hits in the game. Dey, Suarez, Michael Clark, and Greene each collected two hits for the Plainsmen. Dey and Eastin Hubbard each drove in two runs for Northeastern. The Plainsmen had patience at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. Suarez and Tanner Peerey led the team with two bases on balls each.
