Northeastern Baseball Gets Back-To-Back Victories Over Otero College, Winning Game 2 18-9
There were runs aplenty on Saturday, as Northeastern beat Otero 18-9. Northeastern collected 17 hits, while Otero had nine.
Northeastern got on the board in the top of the second inning after Brendan Clelland tripled, scoring two runs, DDC Player of the Game, Hudson Hoy doubled, scoring one run, Brayden Stufft singled, scoring one run, and Nate Glad homered to center field, scoring two runs.
The Plainsmen added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Michael Clark singled, scoring one run, and Stufft hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs.
Colton Calderon hit a grand slam to left field in the bottom of the third for the Otero.
Northeastern added to their lead with three runs in the top of the ninth inning thanks to home runs by Jett Maisano and Jose Victorio.
Justin Dean earned the win for Northeastern. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and four runs over three and one-third innings, striking out six and walking three. Dante Johnson took the loss for Otero. The righty went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering nine runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking three. Merick Fisbeck, David Ada, Brandon Denton, Evan Lamunyon, and Garren Gechter each came on in relief for Northeastern and shutdown Otero.
Northeastern accumulated 17 hits in the game. Hoy led Northeastern with four runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The shortstop went 3-for-3 on the day. Riley Suarez, Clark, Glad, and Stufft each collected multiple hits for Northeastern. Northeastern had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 13 walks for the game. Alex Harris and Clelland led the team with two walks each. Victorio stole two bases. Northeastern stole six bases in the game.
