Northeastern Baseball Wins Game 1 Over Lamar Community College 8-4
Northeastern took down Lamar 8-4 on Thursday.
Lamar were the first to get on the board in the first when Marco Hernandez hit a solo home run to left field.
Northeastern jumped into the lead in the bottom of the second when DDC Player of the Game, Michael Clark tripled, scoring two runs, and Zach McVay hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
The Plainsmen added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning on three hits. Eastin Hubbard homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Clark hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Brayden Stufft hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth for the Northeastern.
Ondrej Vank earned the win for Northeastern. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and four runs over four innings, striking out four and walking three. Benicio Marchiondo took the loss for Lamar. The righty went three innings, surrendering six runs on five hits, striking out three and walking two. Logan Steckel collected the save. Garren Gechter tossed one inning of shutout ball for Northeastern in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out one and walking one.
Hubbard and Stufft were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Northeastern while hitting back-to-back. Clark went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. George Greene stole two bases. Northeastern stole four bases in the game.
