Northeastern Baseball Becomes First Ever Region IX Team To Have 100 Home Run/150 Stolen Base Season as They Take Down Lamar Community College in Game 2 18-8
DDC Player of the Game, Michael Clark hit two home runs and drove in six as Northeastern defeated Lamar 18-8 on Thursday. Clark homered in the seventh and first innings.
Northeastern collected 19 hits and Lamar had 15 in the high-scoring affair.
Lamar opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Lamar first got on the board when Charlie McKinney singled, scoring two runs.
Northeastern tied the game up in the bottom of the first thanks to two home runs. Northeastern tied the game at three on a solo home run to center field by Clark.
A solo home run to right field by Keenan Oxford gave Lamar the lead, 4-3, in the top of the third.
Northeastern captured the lead, 7-4, in the bottom of the third when Clark singled, scoring one run, Aniel Del Orbe doubled, scoring one run, and Brendan Clelland singled, scoring two runs.
The Plainsmen scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Clark tripled, scoring two runs, Del Orbe homered to left field, scoring two runs, and George Greene hit a solo home run to right field.
Northeastern added five more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on four hits. Riley Suarez singled, scoring two runs, Clark homered to right field, scoring two runs, and Nate Glad hit a solo home run to left field.
Justin Dean earned the win for Northeastern. The pitcher gave up 10 hits and six runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking none. Keon Bandy pitched four and one-third innings in relief for Northeastern. The righty surrendered five hits and two runs while, striking out seven and walking none. Jaymin Fitak took the loss for Lamar. The southpaw went three and one-third innings, allowing 10 runs on nine hits, striking out four and walking two.
Northeastern piled up 19 hits in the game. Suarez, Del Orbe, Glad, Brayden Stufft, and Clelland each collected multiple hits for Northeastern. Eastin Hubbard paced Northeastern with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Stufft stole four bases. Northeastern stole nine bases in the game. Northeastern didn't commit a single error in the field. Glad had the most chances in the field with 12.
