Northeastern Baseball Takes Down Lamar Community College 19-10 On the Road
DDC Player of the Game, Aniel Del Orbe drove in four runs on three hits to lead Northeastern past Lamar 19-10 on Friday. Del Orbe doubled in the seventh inning, scoring two runs, and hit a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning, scoring one.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Northeastern collected 17 hits and Lamar 14 in the high-scoring affair.
Northeastern opened the scoring in the first after Riley Suarez hit a solo home run to left field.
Lamar flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a solo home run to center field by Sebastian Chavez following a 7-pitch at-bat that drove in one.
Northeastern tied the game in the top of the second thanks to a single by Brendan Clelland, and a home run to left field by Hudson Hoy.
In the bottom of the second, the Runnin' Lopes broke up the tie when Chavez homered to right field, scoring two runs. Then a sacrifice fly by Keenan Oxford followed to extend the lead to 8-5.
Lamar scored one run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run to center field by Dane Heppner.
Del Orbe hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the fifth for the Northeastern.
In the top of the sixth inning, Northeastern went back into the lead after Suarez walked, Del Orbe was struck by a pitch, Michael Clark walked, and Eastin Hubbard hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Northeastern added nine more runs in the top of the seventh inning on eight hits. Jose Victorio hit a solo home run to center field, Suarez singled, scoring one run, Del Orbe doubled, scoring two runs, a dropped third strike scored one run, Hubbard singled, scoring one run, Brayden Stufft singled, scoring two runs, and a steal of home scored one run.
Gavin Lamont earned the win for Northeastern. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking none. Tony Slizowski stepped on the mound first for Northeastern. The starter surrendered seven hits and eight runs over one inning, striking out one and walking two. Dominick Gonzalez stepped on the hill first for Lamar. The righty allowed eight hits and eight runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking four.
Northeastern collected 17 hits in the game. Stufft set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Northeastern with four hits in six at bats. Suarez and Hoy each collected multiple hits for Northeastern. Northeastern had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Suarez and Clark led the team with two free passes each. Clark stole two bases. The Plainsmen stole five bases in the game. Northeastern didn't commit a single error in the field. Stufft had the most chances in the field with five.
