Northeastern Softball Falls in Close Fought Contest to Western Nebraska Community College 4-3
Northeastern Softball comes up just short in extra innings, as they fall to Western Nebraska Community College 4-3 on Monday. Mackenzie Bowie was named the DDC Player of the Game. Bowie started in the circle for the Plainswomen and ultimately ended up earning the loss. Bowie threw all 8 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on 5 hits, walking two batters and striking out one batter. Bowie also went 1-3 at the plate, driving in one run.
The Plainswomen were the first to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning when an error scored a run. The Cougars tied the game at one in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, Bowie singled, scoring one run. Then a ground out by Kelsi Jurczeswky followed to extend the lead to 3-1. The Cougars hit a home run to tie the game at three in the top of the seventh inning. WNCC scored one run in the top of the eighth inning to take the final lead.
Mikeayla Llamas led Northeastern with two hits in the contest. The Plainswomen were able to tally 5 stolen bases in the game.
