Northeastern Baseball Wins Second Game in A Row Over McCook Community College, Winning Game 2 21-8
Tanner Peerey hit two home runs and drove in four as Northeastern defeated McCook 21-8 on Thursday. Peerey homered in the fourth and third innings.
The Plainsmen collected 23 hits and McCook had 11 in the high-scoring affair.
McCook got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Tyler Reyburn doubled down the left field line, and Jakoby Hamer singled to center field, each scoring one run.
The Indians extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the second thanks to home runs by Connor Charvat and Kon Yoshimura.
Peerey hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the third for the Northeastern.
Northeastern flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead, 9-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Peerey that drove in three.
The Plainsmen added three more runs in the top of the eighth inning on four hits. Hudson Hoy doubled, scoring one run, and DDC Player of the Game, Brayden Stufft homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Northeastern added to their lead with four runs in the top of the ninth inning thanks to home runs by Jaiven Baca, Carson Sauter, and Tucker Smock.
Justin Dean earned the win for Northeastern. The pitcher gave up seven hits and five runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking two. Mikah Targett began the game for McCook. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and seven runs (six earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking three. Brandon Denton pitched one inning of zero-run ball for Northeastern in relief. The reliever gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
Northeastern tallied 23 hits in the game. Stufft set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Northeastern with four hits in five at bats. Aniel Del Orbe, Stufft, and Peerey each drove in four runs for Northeastern. George Greene and Hoy each collected multiple hits for Northeastern. Nate Glad led the Plainsmen with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Stufft stole two bases. Northeastern stole five bases in the game.
