Northeastern Softball Wins Game 2 of the Double-Header Against Colby 16-14

DDC Player of the Game, America Griffin hit two home runs and drove in eight as Northeastern defeated Colby 16-14 on Sunday at Colby. Griffin homered in the third and sixth innings.

Bats blistered as Northeastern collected 11 hits and Colby tallied 15 in the high-scoring game.

The Plainswomen got on the board in the top of the first inning after Addison Steele drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, and an error scored two runs.

Griffin homered to left field, scoring two runs in the top of the third for the NJC.

Colby scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to center field by Kylan Sorenson.

The Trojans jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Brooke Zinken grounded out, scoring one run, and Aly Richardson homered to left field, scoring two runs.

Northeastern flipped the game on it's head in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 12-9. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Griffin that drove in two.

Colby tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth thanks to two singles. The Trojans tied the game at 12 on a single by Briley Christensen.

A home run to center field by Griffin gave NJC the lead, 14-12, in the top of the sixth.

Kelsi Jurczewsky homered to center field, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh for the Northeastern.

Brook McNeil began the game for Northeastern. The pitcher allowed nine hits and nine runs (five earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking none. Katelyn Zukewich started in the circle for Colby. The pitcher allowed seven hits and 12 runs (six earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking six. Maddie Cline appeared in relief for NJC.

Northeastern piled up 11 hits in the game. Mikeayla Llamas and Marisa Reyes each collected multiple hits for Northeastern. The Plainswomen had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Brodie Wilcoxen and Steele led the team with two bases on balls each. Griffin stole two bases. NJC ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game.

Colby piled up 15 hits in the game. Christensen and Zinken were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected four hits for the Trojans. Richardson hit two home runs in the game. The right fielder went 2-6 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Christensen and Richardson each drove in three runs for Colby. Sorenson collected two hits for the Trojans in three at bats.
