Northeastern Softball Finishes 2-0 Against Fort Hays Tech Northwest, Taking Them Down in Game Two 14-1

Northeastern won big over Fort Hays Tech 14-1 on Tuesday at Sterling.

The Plainswomen opened the scoring in the first after an error scored one run.

Northeastern scored seven runs on one hit in the bottom of the second inning. Brodie Wilcoxen singled, scoring one run, Mikey Llamas drew a walk, scoring one run, Kelsi Jurczewsky grounded out, scoring two runs, Tati Hunt was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, T-Nyla Curnutt drew a walk, scoring one run, and one run scored on a dropped third strike.

The Plainswomen scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Llamas tripled, scoring two runs, America Griffin doubled, scoring one run, Hunt drew a walk, scoring one run, Curnutt singled, scoring one run, and Brook McNeil drew a walk, scoring one run.

DDC Player of the Game, Maddie Cline earned the win for NJC. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking none. Sami Sandersom stepped in the circle first for Fort Hays Tech. The right-handed pitcher gave up five hits and 14 runs (11 earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking nine.

Leadoff hitter Wilcoxen led NJC with two hits in three at bats. Llamas went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. NJC had patience at the plate, piling up 12 walks for the game. McNeil, Curnutt, Hunt, and Cline led the team with two free passes each.


The Plainswomen will face off against North Platte Community College at Mason Field on Friday at 12:00.
