Northeastern Softball Takes Dominant First Game Victory Over North Platte Community College 19-4

DDC Player of the Game, America Griffin drove in five runs on three hits to lead Northeastern past North Platte 19-4 on Friday at Sterling. Griffin singled in the second scoring two, doubled in the first scoring one, and doubled in the third scoring one.

Northeastern jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Kelsi Jurczewsky tripled, scoring two runs, Griffin doubled, scoring one run, Addison Steele singled, scoring one run, and Tati Hunt doubled, scoring one run.

A single by Griffin, an error, and a single by Hunt helped NJC extend their early lead in the second.

The Plainswomen scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Griffin doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Steele doubled, scoring two runs, and Brodie Wilcoxen singled, scoring two runs.

Marisa Reyes earned the win for Northeastern. The right-handed pitcher surrendered four hits and four runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Areliana Bravo started the game for North Platte. The lefty gave up 11 hits and 15 runs (eight earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.

Northeastern amassed 14 hits in the game. Wilcoxen, Reyes, Hunt, Steele, and Jurczewsky each collected multiple hits for NJC. Reyes stole two bases. NJC stole five bases in the game.
