Northeastern Softball Wins Game Two Over North Platte Community College 12-4

DDC Player of the Game, Kelsi Jurczewsky drove in four runs on two hits to lead Northeastern past North Platte 12-4 on Friday at Sterling. In the fourth inning, Jurczewsky homered to center field, scoring three runs.

The Knights opened the scoring in the first after Brooklyn Deibert tripled, scoring one run.

Northeastern took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Brodie Wilcoxen scored after tagging up, and Ryann Mergelman grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.

Nayely Duran was struck by a pitch, which helped North Platte tie the game at two in the top of the second.

Wilcoxen singled to center field on the seventh pitch of the at-bat, which helped Northeastern tie the game at two in the bottom of the second.

The Knights took the lead in the top of the third. Wren Herrick doubled, scoring two runs, to give the Knights the advantage, 4-2.

Northeastern scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Addison Steele drew a walk, scoring one run, Mergelman was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Tati Hunt grounded out, scoring one run, and Wilcoxen singled, scoring two runs.

Brook McNeil earned the win for Northeastern. The pitcher gave up 10 hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out one and walking none. Danica Unger stepped in the circle first for North Platte. The starter gave up 10 hits and 13 runs (11 earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out none and walking eight.

Wilcoxen set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Northeastern with three hits in five at bats. NJC had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Mikey Llamas and Reina Roberts led the team with two free passes each. Marisa Reyes stole two bases. NJC ran wild on the base paths, tallying four stolen bases for the game. NJC turned one double play in the game. NJC were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Wilcoxen made the most plays with six.

 

The Plainswomen will be on the road at North Platte for a two game road series against the Knights.
