Northeastern Softball Sweeps Season Series Over North Platte Community College, Winning Game Four in a Thriller 7-6
Northeastern topped North Platte 7-6 on Sunday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at six in the top of the seventh when an error scored one run.
The Knights got on the board in the first inning after Sarah LeBere hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Northeastern took the lead in the top of the third. DDC Player of the Game, Mikeayla Llamas homered to right field, scoring three runs, to give the Plainswomen the lead, 3-1.
Areliana Bravo singled down the right field line, which helped the Knights tie the game at three in the bottom of the third.
A double by Brodie Wilcoxen gave Northeastern the lead, 4-3, in the top of the fourth.
North Platte took the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the fifth thanks to singles by Bravo, and Kinsley Lawrence.
The Plainswomen captured the lead, 7-6, in the top of the seventh after Kelsi Jurczewsky singled down the left field line, America Griffin singled, and North Platte committed an error, each scoring one run.
Brook McNeil stepped in the circle first for Northeastern. The starter allowed eight hits and five runs (three earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking one. Bravo started in the circle for the Knights. The lefty gave up 10 hits and seven runs (five earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking one. Marisa Reyes tossed one inning of no-run ball for Northeastern in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
Llamas drove the middle of the lineup, leading Northeastern with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Llamas, Wilcoxen, and Griffin each collected two hits for NJC. The Plainswomen stole three bases in the game. Northeastern turned one double play in the game.
Northeastern will welcome in Otero College on Friday April 3rd starting at 12:00 PM.
