Northeastern Softball Takes Down Otero College 11-0 in Game 1 of a Four Game Home Series
Northeastern won big over Otero 11-0 on Friday at Sterling.
The Plainswomen jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Mikey Llamas singled, scoring two runs, and a passed ball scored one run.
Four more Northeastern runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 7-0. DDC Player of the Game, Marisa Reyes doubled, scoring one run, Llamas grounded out, scoring two runs, and Kelsi Jurczewsky hit a solo inside the park home run.
Reyes started in the circle for NJC. The starter gave up one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Reagan Mewbourn started the game for Otero. The right-handed pitcher surrendered four hits and seven runs (six earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking five. Maddie Cline pitched one inning of shutout ball for Northeastern in relief. The pitcher gave up one hit, striking out none and walking none.
Llamas and Addison Steele each drove in two runs for Northeastern. Reyes went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead NJC in hits. Brodie Wilcoxen collected two hits for NJC in three at bats. Tati Hunt led NJC with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. NJC stole five bases in the game. NJC turned two double plays in the game.
