Northeastern Softball Wins Two in a Row over Otero College, Winning Game Two 16-6

DDC Player of the Game, Brodie Wilcoxen drove in six runs on two hits to lead Northeasern past Otero 16-6 on Friday at Sterling. Wilcoxen hit a grand slam to center field in the fifth scoring four, hit a sacrifice fly in the third scoring one, and hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth scoring one.

Northeastern got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Marisa Reyes homered to center field, scoring two runs, Addison Steele doubled, scoring two runs, and Madison Birt singled, scoring one run.

The Plainswomen added one run in the second after Kelsi Jurczewsky singled down the left field line.

Otero scored one run in the top of the third on a solo home run to right field by Ava Fladung.

Northeastern added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after T-Nyla Curnutt doubled to center field, Wilcoxen hit a sacrifice fly, Reyes singled to center field, and Jurczewsky singled to center field, each scoring one run.

The Plainswomen scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth on a grand slam to center field by Wilcoxen.

Brook McNeil began the game for Northeastern. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs (one earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking none. Liv Smith started in the circle for Otero. The pitcher gave up 15 hits and 16 runs (eight earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking three. Maddie Cline appeared in relief for Northeastern.

NJC amassed 15 hits in the game. NJC's Birt, the number eight hitter, led NJC with three hits in four at bats. Curnutt, Reyes, Tati Hunt, and Jurczewsky each collected multiple hits for NJC.
