Northeastern Softball Takes A Walk-Off Win In Game One Against Luna Community College 4-3
It came down to the wire on Saturday at Sterling, as Northeastern grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over Luna. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the seventh when DDC Player of the Game, Kelsi Jurczewsky doubled, scoring one run.
Northeastern opened the scoring in the bottom of the second thanks to two walks. Northeastern first got on the board when Madison Birt drew a walk, scoring one run.
The Plainswomen added one run in the third after Luna committed an error.
Chavez singled down the right field line, which helped Luna tie the game at three in the top of the sixth.
Marisa Reyes started in the circle for Northeastern. The starting pitcher gave up five hits and three runs (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking four. Hernandez started in the circle for Luna. The starter allowed three hits and four runs (three earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out three and walking eight.
Ryann Mergelman, America Griffin, and Jurczewsky each collected one hit for NJC. Mikey Llamas and Jurczewsky were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for NJC. Llamas paced NJC with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game.
