Northeastern Softball Wins Third Game In a Row Over Luna Community College, Taking Game Three 15-9
DDC Player of the Game, Brodie Wilcoxen collected three hits in five at bats, as Northeastern defeated Luna 15-9 on Sunday at Sterling. Wilcoxen hit a home run to left field in the sixth inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
Luna got on the board in the top of the first inning after Renteria doubled down the right field line, Northeastern committed an error, and Archuleta grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.
Luna added two runs in the second. Encinias singled to center field, making the score 5-2.
McKinley homered to center field, scoring two runs in the top of the third for the Luna.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Northeastern went back into the lead after Mikey Llamas singled to center field, America Griffin singled to center field, and Tati Hunt hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Northeastern scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hunt hit a solo home run to center field, Ryann Mergelman singled, scoring two runs, and Wilcoxen homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Marisa Reyes stepped in the circle first for Northeastern. The pitcher surrendered 16 hits and nine runs (eight earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking four. Hernandez led things off in the circle for Luna. The pitcher allowed 10 hits and 10 runs (seven earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking four.
The Plainswomen piled up 15 hits in the game. Wilcoxen and Addison Steele each collected three hits for NJC. Madison Birt and Griffin each collected multiple hits for NJC. NJC had patience at the plate, accumulating four walks for the game.
