Northeastern Softball Drops Game 1 To Trinidad State College 14-12
A walk-off left Northeastern on the wrong end of a 14-12 defeat to Trinidad State on Saturday at Trinidad. The Trojans were down 12-11 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Zoie Linville homered to center field, scoring three runs.
DDC Player of the Game, Brodie Wilcoxen homered in the third and fourth innings. Overall the infielder went 4-5 while driving in seven and scoring two runs.
Trinidad State jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Liegha Lucero singled, scoring one run, and Nevaeh Lee homered to right field, scoring three runs.
Northeastern flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring six runs on six hits to take the lead, 6-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to center field by Wilcoxen that drove in three.
The Plainswomen added four more runs in the top of the fourth inning on four hits. Wilcoxen homered to center field, scoring three runs, and Jasmine Tafoya induced Kelsi Jurczewsky to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Trinidad State scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a home run to left field by Linville.
The Trojans scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jaylin Kelly doubled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, an error scored one run, and Lee singled, scoring one run.
A sacrifice fly by Marisa Reyes gave Northeastern the lead, 12-11, in the top of the seventh.
Reyes led things off in the circle for Northeastern. The righty allowed 12 hits and 14 runs (10 earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking five. Danae Chavira stepped in the circle first for Trinidad State. The pitcher gave up nine hits and nine runs over three innings, striking out one and walking one.
NJC collected 16 hits in the game. Mikey Llamas, Ryann Mergelman, Reyes, America Griffin, and Addison Steele each collected multiple hits for NJC. NJC ran wild on the base paths, piling up three stolen bases for the game.
