Northeastern Softball Takes Game 2 Over Trinidad State College 16-5
DDC Player of the Game, Marisa Reyes collected four hits in five at bats, as Northeastern defeated Trinidad State 16-5 on Saturday. Reyes hit a home run to center field in the fourth inning, doubled in the sixth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the seventh inning.
Northeastern got on the board in the top of the first inning after Kelsi Jurczewsky grounded out, Tati Hunt hit a sacrifice fly, and Madison Birt singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Trinidad State scored one run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run to center field by Teren Sanchez.
Calee Sharp hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the second for the Trinidad State.
Sharp doubled, which helped the Trojans tie the game at three in the bottom of the third.
A home run to center field by Reyes gave Northeastern the lead, 5-3, in the top of the fourth.
Sharp homered to left field, which helped Trinidad State tie the game at five in the bottom of the fifth.
Northeastern flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring seven runs on eight hits to take the lead, 12-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Mikey Llamas that drove in two.
The Plainswomen added four more runs in the top of the seventh inning on three hits. America Griffin singled, scoring two runs, and Hunt homered to center field, scoring two runs.
Brook McNeil led things off in the circle for Northeastern. The hurler surrendered seven hits and five runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out three and walking one. Kyana Griskevich started the game for Trinidad State. The hurler gave up 10 hits and 10 runs over five and one-third innings, striking out three and walking four.
Northeastern tallied 17 hits in the game. Hunt led the Plainswomen with four runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Brodie Wilcoxen, Birt, Griffin, and Addison Steele each collected multiple hits for NJC. NJC had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game. Wilcoxen and Griffin led the team with two bases on balls each. NJC turned one double play in the game.
