Northeastern Softball Gets Back-To-Back Victories Over Trinidad State College, Winning Game 3 14-10
DDC Player of the Game, Kelsi Jurczewsky collected four hits in five at bats, as Northeastern defeated Trinidad State 14-10 on Sunday. Jurczewsky doubled in the seventh inning, doubled in the fourth inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as Northeastern collected 18 hits and Trinidad State 15 in the high-scoring affair.
Trinidad State got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Liegha Lucero grounded out, and Calee Sharp doubled to right field, each scoring one run.
The Trojans scored one run in the bottom of the second on a solo home run to right field by Danika Bernal on an 0-2 count.
America Griffin homered to center field, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth for the Northeastern.
The Plainswomen took the lead, 9-4, in the top of the fifth thanks to singles by Mikey Llamas, Reina Roberts, Ryann Mergelman, and Brodie Wilcoxen.
Trinidad State tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth thanks to four home runs. The Trojans tied the game at nine on a solo home run to center field by Josie Prevedal.
Northeastern took the lead in the top of the sixth. Jurczewsky scored after tagging up, to give NJC the lead, 10-9.
Lucero singled to center field, which helped Trinidad State tie the game at 10 in the bottom of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, Northeastern broke up the tie when Jurczewsky doubled, scoring three runs. Then a fly out by Griffin followed to extend the lead to 14-10.
Marisa Reyes stepped in the circle first for Northeastern. The right-handed pitcher allowed nine hits and seven runs over five innings, striking out four and walking two. Jasmine Tafoya opened the game for Trinidad State. The pitcher allowed 10 hits and nine runs (five earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking none. Maddie Cline appeared in relief for Northeastern.
The Plainswomen piled up 18 hits in the game. Griffin provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Northeastern with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Wilcoxen, Reyes, and Jurczewsky each collected four hits for NJC. Roberts collected two hits for NJC in three at bats.
