Northeastern Softball Takes Down Trinidad State College in a High Scoring Affair in Game 4 26-18, Winning The Weekend Series 3-1

DDC Player of the Game, America Griffin hit three home runs and drove in seven as Northeastern defeated Trinidad State 26-18 on Sunday at Trinidad. Griffin homered in the second, first, and fourth innings.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as Northeastern collected 21 hits and Trinidad State 21 in the high-scoring affair.

Northeastern got on the board in the top of the first inning after Kelsi Jurczewsky hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Griffin homered to left field, scoring two runs.

Trinidad State flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs on five hits to take the lead, 6-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to center field by Abigail Urista that drove in three.

Northeastern flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 8-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to center field by Griffin that drove in three.

Trinidad State made the score 10-8 in the bottom of the second after Liegha Lucero singled, scoring three runs, and Calee Sharp hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.

The Plainswomen flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead, 15-10. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to right field by Tati Hunt that drove in four.

Griffin homered to center field, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth for Northeastern.

Brodie Wilcoxen homered to right field, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth for the Plainswomen.

Northeastern scored six runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. Hunt singled, scoring one run, Addison Steele singled, scoring two runs, Wilcoxen singled, scoring one run, Marisa Reyes singled, scoring one run, and Mikey Llamas grounded out, scoring one run.

Brook McNeil pitched six and one-third innings in relief for Northeastern. The pitcher gave up 17 hits and 13 runs while, striking out one and walking one. Maddie Cline led things off in the circle for Northeastern. The pitcher gave up four hits and five runs (two earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out none and walking none. Kyana Griskevich started the game for Trinidad State. The pitcher gave up five hits and seven runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking four.

Northeastern accumulated 21 hits in the game. Wilcoxen and Griffin each collected four hits for NJC. Ryann Mergelman, Reyes, Hunt, and Steele each collected multiple hits for NJC. NJC had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Wilcoxen and Jurczewsky led the team with two bases on balls each.

The Plainswomen will be back in action again this Friday in Beatrice, Nebraska, as they take on the Southeast Community College Bobcats for a four game road series.
