Northeastern Softball Drops A Heart Breaker To Southeast Community College in Game 2, Falling 4-3

A walk-off left Northeastern on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Southeast on Saturday at Beatrice. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the seventh when Brett Young singled, scoring one run.

Northeastern lost despite out-hitting Southeast 11 to nine. Brodie Wilcoxen, Marisa Reyes, and DDC Player of the Game, America Griffin each collected two hits for Northeastern.

The Plainswomen were the first to get on the board in the second when Addison Steele singled, scoring one run.

Reyse Zobel walked, which helped Southeast tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fourth, Northeastern broke up the tie when Griffin scored after tagging up. Then a single by Ryann Mergelman followed to extend the lead to 3-1.

Southeast took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning after Lexi Paskach singled down the right field line, and Young singled to center field, each scoring one run.

Reyes took the loss for Northeastern. The right-handed pitcher went six and one-third innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, striking out one and walking three. Seinna McEntire began the game for Southeast. The righty allowed eight hits and one run over six innings, striking out five and walking none.

Northeastern tallied 11 hits in the game. Mergelman, Madison Birt, and Steele each drove in one run for NJC.
