Northeastern Softball Takes Dominating Game 1 Victory Over Lamar Community College 14-0
Northeastern defeated Lamar 14-0 on Saturday at Lamar as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Marisa Reyes and Maddie Cline each pitched for Northeastern in the game. Cline induced a fly out from Kylie Twilt to get the last out.
Brodie Wilcoxen collected three hits in five at bats in the win. Wilcoxen singled in the seventh inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
A single by DDC Player of the Game, Addison Steele put Northeastern on the board in the top of the second.
The Plainswomen added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Mikey Llamas grounded out, and America Griffin singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Northeastern scored seven runs on seven hits in the top of the seventh inning. Tati Hunt doubled, scoring one run, Reina Roberts singled, scoring one run, Ryann Mergelman doubled, scoring one run, Wilcoxen singled, scoring two runs, and Llamas tripled, scoring two runs.
Reyes started the game for Northeastern. The starter surrendered four hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out four and walking four. Bethany Summers opened the game for Lamar. The pitcher gave up 17 hits and 14 runs (12 earned) over seven innings, striking out one and walking two. Cline pitched one inning of no-run ball for Northeastern in relief. The righty surrendered zero hits, striking out none and walking none.
Northeastern collected 17 hits in the game. Northeastern's Steele, the number eight hitter, led the Plainswomen with four hits in four at bats. Mergelman and Griffin each collected multiple hits for Northeastern. The Plainswomen stole four bases in the game. NJC were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Mergelman made the most plays with 12.
