Northeastern Softball Stays Alive In Region IX Elimination Breakout, Taking Down Luna Community College 14-6

DDC Player of the Game, Mikeayla  Llamas hit two home runs and drove in three as Northeastern defeated Luna 14-6 on Saturday. Llamas homered in the second and third innings.

Northeastern got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Brodie Wilcoxen hit a solo home run to right field, Kelsi Jurczewsky tripled, scoring one run, Tati Hunt singled, scoring one run, and Addison Steele doubled, scoring two runs.

Luna scored one run in the top of the second on a solo home run to left field by Encinias.

Northeastern scored seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning. Llamas homered to center field, scoring two runs, America Griffin singled, scoring one run, Reina Roberts singled, scoring one run, and Ryann Mergelman homered to left field, scoring three runs.

The Plainswomen added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning on two hits. Llamas hit a solo home run to left field, and an error scored one run.

Marisa Reyes stepped in the circle first for Northeastern. The right-handed pitcher surrendered seven hits and six runs (five earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Hernandez opened the game for Luna Softball. The pitcher surrendered eight hits and seven runs over one inning, striking out none and walking one.

Northeastern tallied 14 hits in the game. Jurczewsky went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Northeastern in hits. Reyes collected two hits for the Plainswomen in four at bats. Reyes and Jurczewsky each stole multiple bases for Northeastern. The Plainswomen ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game.
