Northeastern Softball Continues Fighting Through the Elimination Bracket, This Time Taking Out Southeast Community College 14-11

DDC Player of the Game, Tatiana Hunt drove in four runs on three hits to lead Northeastern past Southeast 14-11 on Saturday. Hunt hit a home run to right field in the third scoring two, singled in the sixth scoring one, and doubled in the seventh scoring one.

Bats blistered as Northeastern collected 16 hits and the Bobcats tallied 12 in the high-scoring game.

The Bobcats jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Keira Carswell hit a solo home run to center field, Lexi Paskach hit a grand slam to left field, Carswell singled, scoring one run, and Bri Houchin doubled, scoring two runs.

Northeastern scored five runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. America Griffin singled, scoring two runs, Hunt homered to right field, scoring two runs, and Reina Roberts hit a solo home run to center field.

Southeast extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Gracie Moe and Brett Young.

Northeastern flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 12-10. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Addison Steele on a full count that drove in two.

The Bobcats scored one run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run to center field by Reyse Zobel.

Brook McNeil stepped in the circle first for Northeastern. The starter gave up 11 hits and 10 runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Seinna McEntire stepped in the circle first for Southeast. The pitcher surrendered eight hits and seven runs (five earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking four. Marisa Reyes appeared in relief for Northeastern.

Northeastern collected 16 hits in the game. Griffin went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Northeastern in hits. Brodie Wilcoxen, Reyes, Roberts, and Steele each collected multiple hits for Northeastern. Kelsi Jurczewsky led Northeastern with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying four walks for the game. Northeastern turned one double play in the game.
